RE: Sanitizing fresh water system for the first time...

Click here for a link that will give you some information on the proper way to sanitize your water system.
You can just hook up to freshwater system and run water through the system to flush it. No need to bucket it out the door.
Water fresheners like "Happy Tank" or like this one from Camping World are a personal preference.
Some people swear by them and some people swear at them.
I dont use them. I just sanitze in the spring and make sure that when I refill I use a good water source.

RE: Where to stay on the way to Florida?

Dizzy World is about 14 hours from Elkridge. You will need to get down to SC at least to break the trip into two days.
A lot of folks stop to see ol' Pedro at South of the Border in Dillon, SC (NC/SC) border. A delightfully tacky little campground and toursit attraction. It's about 7 hours from Elkridge. It still leaves you a little light. When we go to FL, we usually make it to GA on the first day. It's an easy run down 95 and it makes it a little easier leg on the second day.

RE: Three times as much

A freight train transports one ton of freight 400 miles with one gallon.
That was the funniest ad I that I have seen n a long time. People actually were sucked in by this claim.
I would like to see a freight train with one ton of frieght on it go one mile on one gallon of fuel :B

RE: wal mart situation

Will this thread EVER end?!?!?!?!
I think that DickA got wore out and fell asleep trying to ride herd on all of these posts.
Or he's letting it run and hopes that everyone will get "Walmart" out of their system (a least for a week or two) so he can catch a break. :B

Woody Wison Bridge in MD/VA

The second span of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge on I-95, that crosses the Potomac River between MD and VA, was dedicated this morning.
These new spans were built to replace the old bridge. The construction has taken several years, tied up traffic and cost millions of dollars to complete.
This project has been touted by the politicos as a fix to the bottle neck that has slowed I-95 traffic at this choke point.
So what happens? This mornings dedication ceremony caused a major traffic jam and I-95 and backed up traffic for miles. :S
And to make matters worse, they won't open all of the lanes for another two weeks.
Oh, our government.....:R ROTFLMAO :B

RE: Looking for best ocean front camping in NC or SC

Hello!
We are looking for a ocean front campground in either North or South Carolina, something very close to the beach.
Myrtle Beach Travel Park in Mytrle Beach, SC. And Camp Hatteras on the Outer Banks in Rodanthe, NC

RE: Looking for best ocean front camping in NC or SC

We're recent transplants to NC and I haven't been to the beach yet but I've had a couple people tell me to go here: Myrtle Beach Travel Park.
If you end up going, please give us a report.
Thanks!
Eric
We use MBTP when we are in town. The beach is nice. The CG is well maintained. They have an indoor pool and an outdoor pool with a lazy river. There is an area up by the lake that has shade if you don't want to be down by the beach in the unshaded sites. They restrict golf carts to the seasonal site owners. If you ever go to any other MB campground that allows anyone to rent golf carts you will know why that is is important. They recently rebuilt all of the bath houses down in the beach sites.

RE: O.C. Maryland CG's getting busy

Frontiertown is a hard to get ticket all season. Even with Castaways coming on line, the demand for sites in OC is at a premium.

RE: Campground near Middle River MD - (Northeast Baltimore)

Anybody else?
Unless you want to be further away then Fort Meade, you are out of luck.
Everything that meets your criteria or is worth staying at is south or west of Balto.
Much further up 95 from Bar Harbor is Elk Neck State Park (water sewer and electric. All of the other state parks and federal parks in the area have electric only or nothing.
To the west out I-70 is Ramblin' Pines. Nice park but farther then Ft Meade.
Someone else posted the KOA in Millersville , but again south of Baltimore. It is off of I-97 which would take you up to 695 to Middle River. Six of one/half dozen of the other with Ft Meade, but probably twice the price.

RE: Campground near Middle River MD - (Northeast Baltimore)

You're kind of out of luck. As far as location goes, you've seen our best.
Fort Meade won't be a bad deal. I live about 10 minutes from Fort Meade and get to work in downtwon Balto using the BW Parkway (I -295). in about 25 minutes. Since you are going to Middle River you may end up paying the tunnel toll or the bridge toll whe you stay at Ft Meade.
You won't have to worry to much about Balto traffic, Fort Meade to Middle River will all be on Interstates on the east side of town. The only problem over on that side is the rush hours.

RE: A brighter side to rising fuel prices!

Dollar cost averaging.
I don't know how old your PU is, but you still have small amounts of fuel in your tank from the day that you bought it. Now if you could figure out how much you paid for each gallon and dollar cost average it on the molecular level, you would be amazed sat your savings. :B
And all of this figuring would keep you off the road, so your averagwe would even be better :B :B
By God, man, you may have fuel in your tank that's less then 2 bucks a gallon. :B :B :B

RE: rinsing hot water tank????? (((UPDATE)))))))))))

Since I have never drained a tank, I can't argue what might come out. But I am curious as I don't know anyone who drains their home tank. Why does a RV tank accumulate so much stuff when a home tank does not.? Or if it does, it doesn't seem to adversly affect it. Home tanks usually go 20 years + .
While no one drains their home tank, it is recommended that you drain off a few gallons through the bottom drain valve once a year. Your tank will collect sediment theat comes in through the mains, especially if your area has water line breaks. It won't be much, but the stuff that collects at the bottom of the tank will reduce the efficiency of the heater.
As to why an RV tank collects so much stuff, I can't give you the true scientific answer, but it does. I think it has to do with the fact that the lining of the Atwood tank is part of the sacrificial process.
I use the flushing wand that I got at Walmart (same one you get at Camping World)at the end of the season, and when I dewinterize. The white scale that flushs out in the fall is significant.

How do I tell if the aux batteries are just drained or if they need to be replaced.
Mark,
Click here for a website that willgive you a lot of information about the care and maintenance of batteries.
While it is a website by a specific manufacturer, the information applies to all batteries.

RE: Castaways Resort in MD

It looks like they are already conceeding that they may miss the opening by Memorial Day. They have sent letters out to people that have Memorial day reservations
http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/21268244.cfm
I would be surprised if they make it. It will take a pretty big push and some corner cutting moves to be ready.
